THE CANOPY : The canopy is the ' roof ' of the rainforest which is formed by trees which may be 80 to 150 feet tall.In the canopy there is sunlight, wind, rain, and variations in temperature. Flowers and fruit are found here, as are the animals that eat them. Many insects, frogs and birds live here.Some trees - the " emergent layers " - will even grow upwards from the canopy.
THE UNDERSTORY : The understory is the area between the canopy and the forest floor.The air is still, the humidity is high, the temperature is steady and the light is less intense than above.
Birds and butterflies make this their domain, and many animals travel between the forest floor and canopy. THE RAINFOREST FLOOR : The forest floor is where the insects live -and of course the animals that eat them.Most, but not all, plants get their start on the forest floor.It is hot and still, and the light is often dim.In some areas the forest floor is flooded for part of the year, in others it remains dry.The forest floor may be fertile, but is often not. THE PEOPLE : Tropical rainforests are home to tribal people who rely on their surrounding for food, shelter and medicines. Today very few forest people line in traditional ways ; most have been displaced by outside settlers or have been forced to give up their lifestyles by governments.

We take you high into the canopy using an ingenioussystem of platforms,
treehouses, cables and sky bridges for over 2km. For thrill seekers and nature lovers alike
there has never been a more exciting way to explore the tropical rainforest!
You zip line easily from tree to tree on a spectacular and gradual downhill course, taking time to linger in your favorite places, soaking up the fragrance, clean air and animal life.Our safety team accompanies you and teaches you how to move through the trees with the speed and grace of a young gibbon. Recognized as a hotspot of biodiversity,this climax old growth forest supports a huge range of plant, animal and bird life. The minimum age is 7ish but the main criteria is a minimum of 120cm - young children are often taken in tandem - either by a responsible adult or a guide. Maximum weight is 200kg but again this is the max size of the full harness - the zip lines and rigging are certified for many, many more times than this. Located in ancient forests on a Thai preserve 55 minutes from Chiang Mai near the village of Mae Kompong, we chose this beautiful place because here we could offer the the best environment for a thrilling experience in the quiet majesty of the rain forest ecosystem. Included in the package is a visit to the unique village of Mae Kompong where time has stood still. Once a poppy growing area and a bastion of hill tribes, it is now home to a small community of forest dwellers who cultivate tea and coffee plantations. Experience the culture of the local people who are ready to show
you the way of life from a bygone era. Hang out in the tea house and shoot the breeze or stay overnight and sample traditional cooking and crafts. Also included is a trip to the stunning Kompong falls where you can relax in the cool fresh water or take an optional trek deep into the forest.
The pristine village of Mae Kompong lies just 45 minutes southest of Chiang Mai. Neighbouring two national parks - the Jair Son Park and the Mae Dakrai National Park. With little in the way of development the surrounding ecosystem remains incredibly intact and is recognized as a hotspot of biodiversity. At 1,300m. above the sea level this hill station is commonly 4-5? celsius cooler than Chiang Mai - what better way to cool down while you're having fun! We suggest you bring a light jacket and long pants if you have them and a pair of sports shoes or shoes that do not drop off.
Nevertheless none of these items are crucial. A camera is good to bring for the action. Backpacks and sunglasses are an unecessary burden and there are storage facilities in the office when you arrive. |
